Adopting from NEAHS is straightforward. Here's what happens from the moment you find a pet you're interested in to the day you bring them home.

Meet Our Animals

Before You Apply

Meet and greets happen by approved application only. Once your application is approved, we'll call you to schedule a time to meet your future pet. We don't reserve animals ahead of a meet and greet, so the sooner your application is in, the sooner we can connect you.

Applications are reviewed carefully, usually within 1-5 days. We're not always first-come, first-served. Every decision is made with the animal's best interest in mind.

Adoption Fees

Every adoption fee covers spay or neuter, vaccinations, and a microchip. In some cases, spay or neuter surgery happens after adoption, and NEAHS will schedule it, typically within a few days.

Every adoption also includes a complimentary one-year NEAHS membership. That means our monthly newsletter and discounts at participating local businesses, at no extra cost. Just be sure we have your email on file, and ask about your membership card the day you adopt.

Adoption Policy

Applications are held for a short review period to make sure every decision is well-informed, not rushed. A few things to know before you apply:

More than one application may come in on the same animal. That's normal, and it doesn't mean you're out of the running.
Approval isn't always first-come, first-served. We place animals where they'll do best.
Please answer application questions honestly. Inaccurate information can result in a denied application.

FAQ

Yes. Visit us during business hours to spend time with any animal listed as available.

We want every adoption to be the right fit. If it isn't working, contact us and we'll help find a solution, including taking the animal back if needed.

Not for every adoption. Some situations may require one, and we'll let you know during the application process.

Yes, as long as your landlord allows pets. We may ask for confirmation.

Typically 1–5 business days from submission to a decision.

You can view available animals and adoption fees on our Adopt page. Adult dogs are $160, puppies under 6 months are $200, adult cats are $50, and kittens are $75. All fees include spay/neuter, vaccines, and a microchip.

In most cases, yes. In some cases, spay/neuter happens after adoption and before the animal leaves NEAHS, which can take a few days.

Before You Bring Them Home

Adopting from NEAHS includes a full Adoption Agreement, which you'll review and sign in person at pickup. It covers care requirements, spay/neuter and vaccination follow-up, and our return policy. We'll walk through it together, so you'll have a chance to ask questions before you sign.
