Does fostering cost anything?

NEAHS provides food, medical care, and supplies for foster animals. You provide the time and space.

How long does a foster commitment last?

It depends on the animal. Some stays are a few days, others last several months. We'll always tell you what to expect before you commit.

Can I foster if I already have pets?

In many cases, yes. We'll ask about your current pets during the application to make sure it's a safe fit for everyone.

Can I foster if I rent my home?

Yes, as long as your landlord allows pets. We may ask for confirmation.

What if I can't keep fostering partway through?

Contact us right away. We'll work with you to find another solution for the animal in your care.

How Fostering Works

Before NEAHS had a shelter, local homes were the shelter.

How Does Fostering Work?

Fostering doesn't require experience or a big commitment. Here's what to expect from application to homecoming.

1. Apply

Fill out a short foster application so we can learn about your home and availability.

2. Get Matched

We'll reach out with an animal who fits your experience, space, and schedule.

3. We Support You

NEAHS provides food, in-house medical care, and supplies. You provide the home.

4. Return or Adopt

When your foster is ready, they'll move to adoption, or you're always welcome to adopt them yourself.

Not every foster need looks the same. Whether you have a weekend or a few months, there's a role that fits your schedule.

Short-Term

A few days to a few weeks, often for animals recovering from surgery or waiting for transport.

What NEAHS Provides

Fostering means opening your home, not your wallet. NEAHS covers food, supplies, and medical care for every foster animal in your care, as long as that care is done in-house.
